Two months ago Ren Wohlman hired private investigator Dan Ballantine to help her rescue her partner, Kathy, and her partner’s six-teen-year-old friend, Ruth Hudson, from a religious cult. Ruth had been raised and home schooled there since birth. Ren finds a ‘normal’ home for Ruth where she learns to be a ‘regular’ teen from two teenaged sisters.

The cult leaders want Kathy and Ruth back. They hire Kent Gagnon to find the young women and, if they refuse to return voluntarily, to murder them. They also authorize murder and post a bounty on the rescuers.

Ren learns of the hitman and contacts Ballantine for advice and protection.

Dan makes Ruth safe and advises Ren to sell her motorhome and stop using her credit cards and her cell phone while he hunts the hitman. Ren buys false identification documents, and she and Kathy and Ruth leave the grid.

The cult leader tells Dan he has no way to communicate with Gagnon and cannot stop him.

As Dan fails in his search for the hitman, Ren declares she and Kathy and Ruth can no longer live a cloistered life style. They ignore Dan’s advice, return to the grid, and attract Gagnon’s attention.

Though he, too, is a target, Dan attempts to guard the three women with hopes he is nearby when the hitman finds them and attacks.
