After wealthy Alexander Karkazis, Sr., has a fatal heart attack, his wife, Eva, calls their two sons to his office. She declares the era of being coddled by their father is over. She has closed their credit card accounts and will no longer pay the bills their father paid. She gives each son his birth certificate, his passport, and $10,000 in cash and tells him to go into the world and make something of himself.
60-year-old Eva also announces a modification of her Last Will and Testament. She is leaving most of her millions to an educational trust. On her death each son will receive five million dollars if he can prove he has become a man.
Peter, a doctoral candidate at the University of Nevada at Reno, returns to his studies. While dating Sarah, a Paiute maiden, he meets and becomes friends with her retired grandfather who helps Peter prove the existence of giant, red-haired cannibals.
Alexander, Jr., a convicted felon on probation, murders a man during a burglary to secure a new ID.
18 months later Eva is diagnosed with terminal cancer and given a few months to live. When her attorney tells Alexander, he attempts to murder Peter who goes into hiding not knowing Eva’s condition.
Eva hires private investigator Dan Ballantine to find and bring Peter to her before Alexander kills him.
